PRIVACY & COMMUNITY RULES

A good place to land.

Know what you’re sharing, keep your account in your hands, and look out for the flock.

Updated October 7, 2026

Posts are public.

Write and share photos with that in mind.

Email stays private.

It is used for account access, never your public profile.

Real name? Your choice.

Optional, and private unless you choose to show it.

01 · SHARING

Choose what the flock sees.

Discussions, replies, usernames, and attached photos are public and can be read by anyone. Search engines may index them, and readers can save or share copies. Your optional real name appears only if you turn on “Show my real name” in your profile. Your email is never displayed publicly.

Share your own photos or images you have permission to use. Uploads are resized and image metadata is removed, but faces, addresses, signs, or other identifying details visible in a picture remain visible. Check the picture itself before posting.

Poll votes, reactions, and Helpful counts appear as totals, without a public list of voters. Your own choice is shown to you when signed in. Saved discussions are private to your account. These counts express community opinions; they do not verify health advice.

02 · ACCOUNT & STORAGE

One email. Your own perch.

Sign in with an email verification link, then choose a username. A verified account can participate without waiting for moderator approval. Your real name is optional.

We store the account information needed to sign you in, your profile choices, posts, photos, saved discussions, notifications, and votes or reactions. An essential browser cookie keeps you signed in. Sign out on shared devices.

Unpublished drafts and pending profile details are saved in this browser on this device. Signing out clears those local drafts and details. Clearing browser storage also removes them; a draft is not a published post or a backup.

Cloudflare hosts the forum and runs the Turnstile security check. Resend delivers sign-in emails. These services process the information needed to deliver and protect those features, including network and security signals. Read Cloudflare’s privacy information and Resend’s privacy information for their practices.

Private reports and moderation records help moderators investigate concerns and enforce the rules. Sign-in and posting limits also use temporary security counters to reduce spam and misuse.

03 · DELETION & RETENTION

Your account stays in your hands.

You can edit or delete your own messages. To leave the forum, open Profile and choose “Delete my account.” You may be asked to sign in again first. Account deletion removes your sign-in account, real-name details, public posts and replies, uploaded photos, saved discussions, notifications, and your votes and reactions.

A minimal deleted-member record and username reservation remain to prevent impersonation and keep discussion references consistent. Moderation history may remain for handling abuse and appeals. Deleted message content is cleared; a removed message may leave a placeholder in a conversation. If deletion cannot finish, you’ll receive an error and can retry or contact us.

Recovery backups: private backups follow a seven-day retention policy. Recovery checks current deletion records so restoring an older backup does not bring back a deleted account or its content. Old sign-in sessions and verification links are not restored. Copies saved by other people and search-engine caches are outside our control.

04 · COMMUNITY RULES

Good keepers. Good neighbors.

  1. Welcome the beginners. Be kind, stay specific, and disagree with care. No harassment, threats, or hateful behavior.
  2. Give your question some context. Choose a relevant category, use a clear title, and explain what you observed. Keep discussions about chicken keeping.
  3. Keep health advice grounded. Share experiences without presenting guesses as a diagnosis. Reactions and polls cannot decide safe treatment. For urgent concerns, seek veterinary help; the symptom checker and health guides offer additional resources.
  4. Respect privacy and ownership. Don’t post personal contact details, private conversations, or someone else’s work without permission.
  5. Leave spam off the perch. No sales pitches, repeated promotions, scams, or copied posts.
  6. Flag a concern, don’t pile on. Use Report to tell moderators privately about spam, unsafe advice, or unkind behavior. Reports identify you to moderators, not to other members.

Moderators may hide or remove content, close a discussion, or pause an account when these rules are broken. We aim to explain moderation decisions and consider appeals in context.

05 · CONTACT & APPEALS

Need a human?

For privacy questions, deletion help, or a moderation appeal, contact Chicken Keepers. Include your username, the relevant discussion link, and a short explanation. Keep passwords and sign-in links out of your message.
