What do your eggs really cost?

Use a month of eggs and expenses to estimate the cost of each egg and a dozen. A little clarity for the world’s most charming grocery bill.

    A month at your coop

Use the same calendar month for eggs and expenses. All amounts are in US dollars (USD). Leave any expense you don’t have blank.

Count all collected eggs, including those you eat, share, or sell.

    Your monthly expenses

For feed and bedding, estimate what your flock used this month. A bulk purchase that lasts several months belongs across those months.

    Include coop & setup costs

Optional: spread the cost of your coop, equipment, and getting started over a number of years. This is a simple planning allowance.

Start with a month of eggs and expenses.

Enter your numbers, then calculate to see your cost per egg, per dozen, and for the month.

Egg production changes with the seasons. This estimates one month’s costs, before any egg sales income, rather than your flock’s lifetime average.

Your unpaid time is not included. Add cartons, paid help, or other expenses under Other expenses.
